This Is Me
|
This Is Me As a realist (hyperrealist), I have a deep appreciation for detail—something that has always been central to my practice. I work exclusively from my own reference images, taking many photographs each month. Each reference begins with a moment or a feeling, it is not simply about taking a photograph, but about capturing an idea, one that is shaped by a fleeting moment of light, atmosphere, and emotion. A moment that cannot be recreated, only observed and captured. Within each detail lies a story I want to explore and share. Setting up a still life presents a different set of challenges, requiring careful consideration of composition, lighting, and balance before the image is even captured. Every element must be intentionally placed and adjusted. The process of reviewing and selecting these images takes time; some are set aside as possibilities, while others immediately shout out. They are not always perfectly composed, and resolving this becomes part of my creative journey. • The style of work I create is intrinsic to who I am; I find fulfilment in both making it and engaging with it. • I cannot alter what inspires, motivates, challenges, and ultimately fulfils me as an artist. • Reference photography is an essential tool in my practice. • Not every photograph translates into a successful painting. • The enjoyment and satisfaction I gain from creating art cannot be quantified. • Sharing my work and inspiring others is a privilege. • The health and wellbeing benefits of creating are invaluable. • Success in my art practice is not just about sales, awards, or achievements, but by continual growth—both as an artist and as a person |
